EN: On Monday, the Tromsø Guide Association held its annual meeting at Tromsø Museum. A new board was elected, reflecting the diversity of the guide industry in Tromsø. Petr Pavlis was re-elected as chairman.
The Tromsø Guide Association was established in 1981, and has since followed the development of the tourism sector in the Arctic city. Since last year, the level of activity in the association has picked up again, with several clean-up efforts and courses to improve the competence of its members. The Tromsø Guide Association is working for more sustainability in tourism, both in terms of the use of nature and the city, and by developing its own educational program for tourist guides.
The next event under the auspices of the association is a large-scale clean-up effort on Friday and Saturday, to remove campfire remains and other garbage left by northern lights tourists.
On 23rd March 2026, Tromsø Guideforening held its General Assembly at the Arctic University Museum in Tromsø.
The meeting brought together guides, tourism professionals, and stakeholders from across the industry to reflect on the past year and shape the future of the association.

A Growing Voice in the Industry
The General Assembly confirmed TGF’s role as a growing link between:
- guides
- local communities
- tourism companies
- and public authorities
This has also been recognized externally. Local newspaper coverage highlighted the need for better coordination in a rapidly growing tourism industry, and the importance of having a direct communication channel between guides and authorities.
Looking Ahead
TGF will continue focusing on:
- strengthening the guide community
- improving standards through education
- supporting sustainable tourism development
- creating better communication across the industry
We are also inviting members to get involved through working groups:
- Dugnad (community clean-up)
- Training & education
- PR & outreach
- Communication
We look forward to building this together with the guiding community.
Following the General Assembly, the newly elected board held its first meeting to define structure, priorities, and responsibilities. Key focus areas include strengthening communication, developing the training program, organizing future dugnad activities, and improving support for guides through practical information and collaboration with relevant institutions.
The board also agreed on a clearer working structure and regular meetings to ensure steady progress in the coming months.
