Tromsø Guideforening recommends Uteguiden’s Wilderness First Aid courses for guides and other outdoor professionals working in environments where access to professional medical assistance may be limited.
First Aid and TGF Guide Recognition
A valid first-aid course is required for TGF’s complete Guide Recognition.
To receive a Tromsø Guideforening recognition diploma, guides must provide proof of completing a first-aid course within the last 2 years, in addition to fulfilling the other requirements of the recognition process.
Uteguiden offers two wilderness first-aid courses that can be particularly relevant for guides working in outdoor and remote environments: 20h Basic Wilderness First Aid and 40h Advanced Wilderness First Aid.
Please note that TGF does not require these specific Uteguiden courses. Other first-aid courses may also meet the first-aid requirement, provided they fulfil the applicable requirements.
20h Basic Wilderness First Aid
Duration: 2 days / 20 hours

2-day course
The Basic Wilderness First Aid course is designed for outdoor enthusiasts, junior guides and adventure leaders. It provides practical wilderness first-aid skills for dealing with medical situations during outdoor activities.
The course is a good starting point for guides who want to develop confidence in providing first aid away from an urban environment, including during activities such as hiking, ski touring and kayaking.
40h Advanced Wilderness First Aid
Duration: 4 days / 40 hours
Difficulty: Medium
Format: In-person course

4-day course
The Advanced Wilderness First Aid course is designed for senior guides, expedition leaders and other outdoor professionals working in remote environments.
The training builds on wilderness first-aid knowledge and focuses on more advanced patient assessment, emergency management and prolonged care when professional medical support is limited or unavailable.
For professional guides who regularly work in remote environments and have responsibility for guests, this provides an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how to manage medical emergencies in the field.
Important information
These are not Tromsø Guideforening courses.
The courses are organised and delivered independently by Uteguiden. TGF recommends them as relevant additional training for guides, but course registration, delivery, pricing and certification are handled by Uteguiden.
TGF’s first-aid requirement is not limited to Uteguiden courses. To fulfil the requirement for TGF Guide Recognition, guides must provide proof of completing an appropriate first-aid course within the last 2 years.
