TGF Board Meeting – Summary (05 September 2025)

The Tromsø Guideforening board meeting on 5 September 2025 focused on the continued reactivation of the association and defining its role in today’s guiding and tourism landscape in Tromsø.

Discussions highlighted the need for a professional platform that represents guides across different types of guiding, including nature-based, city, and Northern Lights guiding. Board members emphasized that TGF should serve as a point of dialogue between guides, authorities, and other stakeholders, providing practical insight from the field to support better decision-making and sustainable tourism development.

The meeting addressed challenges related to safety standards, guide competence, and the lack of structured communication between guides and authorities. It was agreed that TGF should work toward improving professional standards while remaining inclusive and realistic, especially given the seasonal nature of guiding work in Tromsø.

Transparency was identified as a core value. The board discussed documenting meetings and ongoing work publicly to ensure openness and accountability. This approach is intended to build trust among guides and demonstrate that TGF is developing in a responsible and collaborative manner.

The meeting concluded with agreement on continuing the pilot phase, focusing on rebuilding community, strengthening cooperation, and learning from the association’s past while adapting to current realities.
