Join Rissa Citizen Science and the Kelpers for a hands-on community day dedicated to restoring kelp forests — one of the most important ecosystems in our coastal waters!
🐠 What’s Happening
Kelp forests along the Norwegian coast have declined dramatically due to grazing sea urchins and other environmental pressures. This event gives volunteers the chance to help turn the tide:
- Work on land — help measure and weigh urchins, record data, support logistics, and help keep the field log.
- Help in the sea — with snorkelling or diving, remove urchins, take photos for scientific monitoring, and support the Urchin Density Challenge.
- No diving experience required — everyone can contribute!
☕ Community, Snacks & Support
Volunteers will be treated to waffles, hot drinks and soup throughout the day — a perfect way to warm up and connect after underwater or on-shore work.
🤿 What You Need
- Sign-up is required but free.
- Rissa CS does not provide diving gear. If you need equipment, membership of the local diving club (e.g., Studentenes Undervannsklubb Tromsø) is recommended.
